A good day today.  We had an extra helper!

Both the windshield surface and rear hatch surface are scraped clean and ready for window/lexan install.

The last of the e-brake has been removed.

Kill switch ready to be installed.  This is the cheap $5 harbor freight switch.  I hope it works.  I got extras as spares incase it has issues.  All the “real” ones were 12x as much or more.  This is a “chumpcar” after all.

We couldn’t find a “safe” place on the passenger side in front of the windshield (seems like the fender or the door could get taken off).  So we decided to put it in the “b”? pillar here.  You can see the pilot hole here.

The other side is notched nicely.  Thanks for thinking of us mazda!

We had to run out to get a stepper bit.  Pretty easy work once we had it though.

We didn’t have the hardware to mount it now, but this is ruffly what it will look like.  There will be a second one inside the car too.  That second switch is required in the 2011 chumpcar rules, so we are going to build it now and not worry about it later.

The seat is in!

It sits really low, you can’t even see the hood from where you sit down in there.  Activate driver cam:

This car has a pretty low roof line.  I think we might have actually gotten the seat low enough for a good amount of clearance around the driver’s head.  I’m really happy with how it turned out.  The sliders easily have enough adjustment for all size of drivers.

The steering wheel needs to come forward at least another inch.

It looks like there is a good ammount of room for the door bars.  The remaining door skin panel catches on your arm.  Time for that to go too.

The next big projects are putting the engine back in and the cage.  The tentative plan is to get the cage done next week.  We have been talking to a couple of local shops about getting some real pro help.  Nothing is finalized yet, but it’s very promising.  I feel a lot better getting the benifit of someone who has done this before.  Safety is really the top priority.

Good week.  I think we will be able to make our march track day with essential systems ready.
